“I landed on the uniform after becoming fixated on a photo of Bianca Jagger wearing a white suit, holding hands with Mick Jagger. I copied her by wearing a slouchy white pantsuit to my wedding and gradually translated the all-white look into my everyday garb. If you’re like most women, putting together an outfit is not something you look forward to. In fact, it may very well strike fear in the hearts of many as you visually appraise the contents of your closet. Then when you open the door you stand there and stare. With little or no inspiration.
When adding in accessories, forget your tried and true’s and opt for something that will add punch to your outfit. Something that speaks to you and your personal style will pull everything together in a chic way. The Third Layer –There’s something about a jacket or cardigan, aka the ‘third layer’, that just gives your look a whole new edge and makes you feel more polished and pulled together. Your third layer could be a great trench, a blazer, a cardigan or other topper.

Choose one that is a great color for you, that fits you to a t without adding bulk and really brings your look together.
Let’s start with the basics. “As a curvy girl, I always pay attention to the type of fabric the garment is made from. Is it really thin, or can I wear undergarments? Are there buttons on the top of the shirt, or do I have to wear a camisole to make it work-appropriate? I don't want to have to fiddle with my clothes.

The better quality and fit, the better. Buying the best you can afford will make something simple into something special. Simple pants and a top are great to wear around the house, the studio or to work, then when you want to go out into the real world, simply throw on your add ons. “My uniform is overalls and Crocs. I love overalls because they do double duty of an apron and pants, which is necessary in my very messy line of work. It's also nice to wear an oversize pair so that in the winter I can layer leggings underneath; in the summer, the loose fit keeps me cool.
And grab, once again, your go-to outfit. Chances are at least one item is black. And chances are, when it comes right down to it, you don’t really love it and it’s not doing anything to bring out your best. “I'd realized the pieces I'd gravitated toward in my closet were either black, white, or gray—and the few colorful items I'd bought in years past hadn't seen the light of day in seasons.

“I no longer wear certain brands because they’re cheaply made and won’t last. I look to brands that carry good-quality clothes and mix them up with items that I don't mind replacing. I try to shop local in Brooklyn, and I especially seek out designers who understand that curvy girls like to look cute too.
I like the clean and sensible nature of Eileen Fisher clothes. I almost always buy on sale, off season. I like the legging pants from Uniqlo, and my favorite store is Anthropologie; they usually go up to a size 14/16 or XL. Throw in dope accessories to any combination of the aforementioned places and some great shoes and some confidence, and you’re golden. I’m all about self-expression through clothes, and I love tinkering with my personal style. I grew up on fashion magazines in my teens, and street-style blogs in my 20s, so I've believed that to be considered even remotely stylish, I had to be wildly unpredictable and eccentric with what I wore.
Shoe In –Shoes for this look can be as simple as you like. Stick with flats or low wedges for best effect and ease of movement. When you’re busy and have a lot to accomplish, wearing high heels or wedges can actually hinder your progress. “I happened upon a uniform. It wasn't as intentional as someone with an all-neutrals closet would have you think—instead, it was more of a gradual loss of color. When a mentor encouraged me to start incorporating clothes that fit my energetic personality and who I was in real life , it made me more confident and a better storyteller and communicator. When autocomplete results are available use up and down arrows to review and enter to select. Touch device users, explore by touch or with swipe gestures. When I shop , it’s all about an eye-catching color first. Even if something fits like a dream but it’s black or brown, I know how it’ll make me feel and I’d much rather grab something pink, yellow, or orange and have it tailored instead.
I realized that I had a number of items that I wasn't wearing and that made making choices in the morning more difficult. So I did the KonMari method and let go of everything I didn't wear. I gradually continued to whittle down until I had the perfect capsule wardrobe. “When I started in TV, I wore big boxy suits in varying shades of black, navy, and gray because that’s what I thought news anchors were supposed to wear. But they made me feel trapped, inauthentic, and uncomfortable, which translated to my on-air performance.
Instagram, of course, was like a spotlight for that realization, so I leaned into it. It sort of became a thing, my aesthetic. “I grew up going to Catholic school and having to wear a uniform. I don't even remember owning a pair of jeans until high school—I think that's why the idea of dressing for work has always stressed me out. I enjoy dressing up for events, but shooting films can be physically demanding and I didn't want to be distracted by what I'm wearing while I'm on set. Start with the Basics –You can start with simple items – jeans and a t, a nice pair of trousers and a tank, even a simple dress.
